Overall objective

Lancashire Cricket Club wanted to highlight the work underway at Emirates Old Trafford to show its commitment to driving the sport forward and making it more inclusive. This linked to the club’s Red Rose Together initiative and its investment in the women’s game.

The objectives of the PR and social media campaign created by Spice PR were to raise awareness of Lancashire Cricket Club and Lancashire Thunder (the women’s team), to drive engagement with target audiences and to help boost sales for the standalone women’s match taking place.

Our approach

Spice PR devised the campaign and hashtag #BatForWomensCricket which encompassed:

  • Regional research to understand people’s views on cricket
  • Press release sharing key findings and announcing the match
  • Cricket Explained guide
  • Free prize draw entry for those buying match tickets
  • Batting challenge on the day
  • Prizes for batting challenge including chance to meet the team
  • Providing an opportunity for two young female cricket fans to interview Lancashire Thunder's captain
  • Comprehensive, multi-channel social media strategy

Results

Spice PR delivered extensive media coverage, spanning online, print and broadcast, and saw excellent engagement on social media. Use of the hashtag peaked on match day which was a resounding success, topped by a win from the Thunder team.

The outcomes of the campaign included:

  • More than 400% increase in sales
  • Tenfold return on investment
  • Media reach of over 67 million
  • Extensive social media engagement
